Why I created the hockey nutrition blueprint
I gave everything to hockey—but I fell short when it mattered most.
I was drafted to the Canadian Women’s Hockey League, a dream I’d worked toward my entire life. But years of under-fuelling, poor recovery, and constant injuries caught up to me. My body was breaking down, and I didn’t have the energy or resilience to compete at my full potential. I didn’t make the final roster.
A few years later, I was sidelined again—this time with post-concussion syndrome that took me off the ice for eight years. During that time, I realized something I wish I’d known much earlier: the hardest-working athletes aren’t always the best-performing ones.
Because no amount of training can make up for poor fuelling.
When young players don’t eat enough—or eat the wrong foods for their sport—they’re more likely to get injured, burn out, or lose confidence. They might start comparing themselves to teammates, blaming their work ethic or body, when the real issue is that their nutrition hasn’t caught up to their training.
That’s why I created The Hockey Nutrition Blueprint—to give hockey families the tools I wish I had.
